{"id":499,"date":"2012-04-26T17:35:15","date_gmt":"2012-04-26T17:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blackactivistwg.org\/blog\/?p=499"},"modified":"2012-10-04T17:40:39","modified_gmt":"2012-10-04T17:40:39","slug":"on-keeping-the-people-divided-distracted-and-controlled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blackactivistwg.org\/blog\/on-keeping-the-people-divided-distracted-and-controlled\/","title":{"rendered":"On Keeping the People Divided, Distracted and Controlled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Published in Issue 469 of The Black Commentator on April 26, 2012<br \/>\nBy Larry Pinkney<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cAnd in the framework of the\u00a0<em>collectivity<\/em>\u00a0there were the differentiations, the stratification, and the bloodthirsty tensions fed by classes; and finally, on the immense scale of humanity, there were racial hatreds, slavery, exploitation, and above all the bloodless genocide which consisted in the setting aside of fifteen thousand millions of men&#8230;For Europe, for ourselves, and for\u00a0<em>humanity<\/em>, comrades, we must\u00a0<em>turn over a new leaf, we must work out new concepts,\u00a0<\/em>and try to set afoot a New Man.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> -Frantz Fanon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cFreedom is always the freedom of dissenters.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> -Rosa Luxemburg<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u00a0United States\u00a0government was brought into existence as a direct result of its murderous genocide of the Indigenous Native peoples, the brutal slavery of Black people, and the shameless exploitation and indentured servitude of many poor White people and others. To this very day, the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0corporate government continues to be singularly, at home and abroad, the most hypocritical, manipulative, and concomitantly violent one on this precious planet of Mother Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Changing the pigmentation of the presidential occupant in the White House has demonstratively served to\u00a0<em>strengthen, give cover for, and perpetuate<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<em>systemic<\/em> exploitation and hypocrisy in and of this government,\u00a0<em>not<\/em> weaken it. To deny this is to be in denial of reality. Unfortunately, although people in this nation\u00a0<em>are<\/em>\u00a0increasingly beginning to awaken, a considerable amount of everyday Black, White, Brown, Red, and Yellow people\u00a0<em>remain<\/em>\u00a0enslaved on\u00a0<em>the mental and political plantations<\/em>\u00a0of the corporate owned and controlled Democratic and Republican parties. This\u00a0<em>must\u00a0be systemically<\/em>\u00a0addressed for what it actually is.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the U.S.\u00a0<em>corporate<\/em>-stream &#8211; so-called \u2018news\u2019 and information media &#8211; is an\u00a0<em>insidious and debilitating one,<\/em> particularly as it pertains to crippling and manipulating the masses of everyday ordinary people, and\u00a0<em>keeping them<\/em>\u00a0on the mental and political plantations of the\u00a0<em>corporate Democratic and Republican party foxes and wolves<\/em>. The job of the corporate media is to distract, omit, and\u00a0disinform the people. Thus, ordinary people are mercilessly bombarded with distractions that serve to keep them\/us manipulated, divided and controlled.\u00a0<em>The corporate-stream media is nothing more than the mouth piece of and for the corporate Democratic and Republican politicians who, in turn, are the political servants of the corporate elite.<\/em> The people in this nation are not stupid, but they\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are\u00a0<em>kept ignorant<\/em><\/span>\u00a0of in-depth <em>pertinent<\/em>\u00a0details regarding the pressing national and international issues that directly affect their welfare and best economic and political interests. Like the U.S. corporate elite and their\u00a0Republicrat\u00a0[i.e. Democratic and Republican party] stooges, the mission of the U.S. \u2018news\u2019 media is to keep the people distracted, divided, and controlled. This cannot be over emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0corporate elite, its politicians, and the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0\u2018news\u2019 and information media all <em>work together<\/em>\u00a0to maintain the\u00a0<em>fake<\/em>\u00a0left\/right paradigm embodied in the symbiotically-joined Democratic and Republican parties. For example, the Wall Street \u201ccrisis\u201d was irrefutably\u00a0<em>manufactured and created by the insatiable greed of the corporate elite\u00a0<\/em>itself. Yet, the leadership of\u00a0<em>both<\/em>\u00a0the Democratic and Republican parties\u00a0<em>jointly<\/em> agreed to the trillion\u00a0dollar\u00a0criminal \u2018bail out\u2019 of and for that very same Wall Street corporate elite\u00a0<em>against the wishes of the vast majority of people<\/em>\u00a0in this nation. And, of course, the corporate-stream media parroted the insipid nonsense of the Democratic and Republican parties regarding this criminal \u2018bail out.\u2019 Moreover, the Republican Party has, in large measure, co-opted and neutralized the \u2018Tea Party\u2019 (<em>regardless<\/em>\u00a0to what one might think of them), which is\u00a0<em>precisely<\/em>\u00a0what the Democratic Party is feverishly attempting to do in the case of the \u2018Occupy Movement\u2019 &#8211;\u00a0<em>co-opt and neutralize.<\/em>\u00a0<em>Both<\/em>\u00a0of these political parties, which are in actuality\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> one<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>symbiotically-joined\u00a0<em>corporate political party<\/em>\u00a0with differing\u00a0<em>rhetoric<\/em>, are about the business of ensuring that they &#8211;\u00a0<em>and only they<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; continue as the power brokers\u00a0<em>over<\/em>\u00a0the people of this nation. The game is rigged. Think about it.\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Both<\/span>\u00a0George Soros and the infamous Koch Brothers,\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">et al<\/span><\/em>, are demonstrative of how money and power are effectively used to\u00a0<em>subvert<\/em>\u00a0a people\u2019s \u2018democracy\u2019 in the\u00a0United States, even as the\u00a0<em>spurious systemic<\/em>\u00a0left\/right paradigm is perpetuated by the corporate Democratic and Republican parties.<\/p>\n<p>The time has come for an end to corporate hegemony and glut inside this nation and around the world. The time has come for an end to economic austerity against the ordinary people of this nation. The time has come for an end to the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0rank and file military being used as the cannon fodder of the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0corporate\/military elite. The time has come for an end to the missiles, bombings, shootings, and maiming by the U.S.\u00a0corporate military machine in\u00a0Afghanistan,\u00a0Pakistan,\u00a0Africa, and elsewhere. The time has come for an end to the de facto legalized police state (NDAA-style) inside the\u00a0United States. The time has come for an end to\u00a0U.S.\u00a0international war-mongering. The time of color and ethnic fear and rage that is\u00a0<em>in fact perpetuated<\/em>\u00a0by the politicos of the corporate Democratic and Republican parties must be brought to a resounding close. And yes, the time has come for an end to the sadistic imprisonment of political prisoners throughout this nation itself. Enough already! These outrages do\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0represent the wishes of the majority of people in this nation. Moreover, these outrages serve to\u00a0<em>incite internal and external fear and hatred<\/em>\u00a0even as the greedy corporate elite becomes even more bloated\u00a0<em>from the pain, misery, division, and<\/em>\u00a0<em>suffering<\/em>\u00a0of ordinary everyday people in this nation and around the world. These outrages, carried out in the fallacious name of the people of this nation by the Democratic and Republican parties, must be made to\u00a0<em>cease<\/em>. Only\u00a0<em>we the people<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; ordinary everyday people &#8211; can and will do this through a long, hard, and determined protracted struggle\u00a0<em>to take back our critical thinking abilities and our humanity from these systemic bloodsuckers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As challenging as it certainly is and will continue to be, we must learn, and quickly, the art of communicating with one another as we\u00a0<em>collectively<\/em>\u00a0go about the revolutionary task of, in the words of Frantz Fanon, \u201cturn[ing] over a new leaf,\u201d \u201cwork[ing] out new concepts,\u201d and \u201ctry[ing] to set afoot a New Man [<em>and Woman<\/em>].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let each one, teach\u00a0one,\u00a0and each one, reach one. Organize, agitate, educate, and then organize\u00a0<em>some more<\/em>. Our humanity belongs to each of us individually\u00a0<em>and<\/em> collectively,\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0to the bloodsuckers of humanity and the despoilers of Mother Earth!<\/p>\n<p>Remember the words of Rosa Luxemburg: \u201cFreedom is always the freedom of dissenters.\u201d Onward, then, my sisters and brothers!
