Newton have been<br \/>\nfor real causes\u2014the people\u2019s struggle &amp; not for the non-sense&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lyrics (includes audio) published in Issue 272 of The Black Commentator on April 10, 2008<br \/>\n<a title=\"Hip Hop Framed by Blackman Preach\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blackcommentator.com\/272\/272_pbf_hip_hop_framed.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.blackcommentator.com\/272\/272_pbf_hip_hop_framed.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Hip Hop Framed<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hip-Hop images captured &amp; stilled for<\/p>\n<p>the worlds view<\/p>\n<p>their mug shots are a center piece portrait<\/p>\n<p>\u2014with most rappers thinking\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the snitch framed them<\/p>\n<p>reading exclusive interviews some writers have<\/p>\n<p>created a moral panic on their client\u2019s profiled<\/p>\n<p>in magazines asking:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0are rappers the target?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 is the justice system fair?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>behind bars they tell their pathetic stories of<\/p>\n<p>bad habits: sex, drugs\u2014violence<\/p>\n<p>glorified on record<\/p>\n<p>magazines post<\/p>\n<p>nineteen faces in the trenches<\/p>\n<p>awaiting trial to be punished not by their peers<\/p>\n<p>but twelve evaluators<\/p>\n<p>a jury<\/p>\n<p>&amp; the rap artist get sentenced according<\/p>\n<p>to their crimes:<\/p>\n<p>holding firearms, robberies,\u00a0 murders, rapes, perjury<\/p>\n<p>5 yrs\u20148 yrs\u2014&amp; lives are accumulated<\/p>\n<p>now these enslaved patrons of hip-hop\u2014leave slogans<\/p>\n<p>to market their release \u201c<em>get free or die trying<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>there\u2019s some confusion here<\/p>\n<p>the jail system shouldn\u2019t be a boost<\/p>\n<p>for the label to sell more records<\/p>\n<p>and the beat goes on\u2026 the beat goes on<\/p>\n<p>radio in heavy rotation rapper get crazy spins<\/p>\n<p>in the urban markets<\/p>\n<p>promoting beefs and misogyny\u2014their vocals rain supreme<\/p>\n<p>as many-many words come across teenage equilibrium<\/p>\n<p>in song format that djs scratch derogatory terms back<\/p>\n<p>and forth<\/p>\n<p>that even a five year old can retain songs<\/p>\n<p>like \u201c<em>I\u2019m Locked Up<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>kids understand it more<\/p>\n<p>especially when their brothers in detention &amp;<\/p>\n<p>father\u2019s serving eight years for domestic violence &amp;<\/p>\n<p>distrubution of powder white<\/p>\n<p>operation lockdown is in effect<\/p>\n<p>with female rappers\u2014too<\/p>\n<p>are almost identical with their cell space<\/p>\n<p>the monkey bars are holding their words<\/p>\n<p>they\u2019re punished for selling sex\u2014lies<\/p>\n<p>in court<\/p>\n<p>then\u2014they\u2019ll get a little conscience<\/p>\n<p>&amp; see their adversary for who they really are:<\/p>\n<p>corporate industry designed to profit<\/p>\n<p>&amp; incarcerate all Black and brown \u2026<\/p>\n<p>do not quote me<\/p>\n<p>see Ms. Barnes piece \u201c<em>off the cuff<\/em>\u201d &amp; read the depressing media hype<\/p>\n<p>with some of hip-hop most celebrated<\/p>\n<p>going to places where Larry Pinkney &amp; Huey P. Bolton), is a poet (spoken word artist) and producer, born in Pascagoula, Mississippi and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. Cedric received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University and currently resides, with his wife, in Syracuse, New York.\u00a0 He is the Founder of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poeticblackfusion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Poetic Black Fusion<\/a>, a writers&#8217; workshop that provides access and opportunities to poets of African Ancestry living in Central New York.\u00a0 He is also the co-founder of Voices Merging, a student-run poetry organization (spoken word) at the University of Minnesota that provides a social outlet for undergraduate students to develop as writers, network and express themselves on stage.
